Star Alliance invites Continental Continental Airlines has been invited to join the airline consortium, Star Alliance. The Alliance's executive board said "the time is right" to ask the US carrier to become a member.
It coincides with the signing of a major bilateral framework agreement between Continental and United Airlines, already a Star Alliance member.
Continental and United together with Alliance members Lufthansa and Air Canada, also recently forged closer links. Jaan Albrecht, Star Alliance’s chief executive, says Continental will be a "perfect fit" for the existing network.
"It will allow the alliance to provide more travel options for customers especially across the US, between North America and Latin America, as well as on the North Atlantic and across the Pacific," he said.
If Continental accepts, the integration process could take up to one year. |
